Emerged

Like a slow drizzle
of syrup from a maple tree
the lights on stage slowly rise-
tree greens, cloudy blue-grays
a painter’s pallet holds colors
that catch the eye-sleepy day

Rubbing sand from a pollen-coated eye,
a pink morning glory greets a swooping heron
as it seeks koi from depths of a still lake,
holding kelp, plankton for wood ducks afloat,
a Dolittle forest sings out with perched voices
the rise of the mid-year day

We stretch from the bowl of someone’s REM.
